FAQs

Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are designed to help you listen and understand conversations and dialogue in everyday activities. They are FDA-regulated as medical devices and electronic products.

ALDs can be used to hear better from distances and in background noise. The listener can adjust the volume of the receiver as needed.

Hearing aids can improve the audibility of sound by amplification but are not able to restore normal hearing or fully improve communication abilities, particularly in certain situations and locations. Nearly half of all HA returns were due to poor HA performance in noise.

In contrast, ClearCast helps you listen and understand by routing the conversation directly into your ear.  It improves what is known as the “speech to noise ratio.” — because the microphone for the ALD is placed near the sound source (the television or person speaking), the ALD amplifies the desired conversation or dialog and minimizes the background noise. In contrast, a hearing aid has a microphone near the user’s ear. All sounds are amplified, including background noise.

Millions of people will benefit from a ClearCast:

  • If you can hear people but not understand what they are saying (People sound like they are mumbling or talking low).
  • If people tell you the TV volume is too high.
  • If you are occasionally asking people to repeat themselves but are not ready for a hearing aid.
  • If you don’t feel like you want an all-day hearing aid in your ears, but rather only need some listening assistance when watching TV, having conversations, or at the dinner table.
  • If you have (or have tried) hearing aids but still struggle with understanding people, or need to turn up the TV volume.
